Miley Cyrus announced last week that she had undergone a professional name change, which left many fans angry. Now, the singer is being backed by fans.
Miley Cyrus has gone through a tough time. Since last week, she has been mourning the death of Dolly Parton, alongside millions of fans.
The country legend was Miley’s godmother. On social media, Cyrus paid tribute to her.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts,” Miley Cyrus wrote.
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”
Cyrus continued, “I will always love her and want to make her proud. My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
While Cyrus has been mourning Dolly, her own career is progressing. However, she is not only releasing new music but also rebranding.
Last week, the 33-year-old singer rebranded herself as “Miley,” dropping her last name on both her website and social media accounts. It was in connection with the news that she is to release her tenth studio album, Bass PERSUADES, on September 18th.
“Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on. It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong,” she wrote on Instagram. “Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me. Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album.”
However, it didn’t take long for fans to react to the news. Some stated that the rebranding was bad timing, not least because it happened the same week her godmother, Dolly Parton, passed away.
“It hasn’t even been a week since Dolly’s passing… this is so weird of her,” one person wrote.
“Dolly just died, you’d think she’d stop self-promoting. Jesus,” a second added.
Still, other fans came to her defense. Fans pointed out that this is what Dolly Parton would’ve wanted and that Miley Cyrus’ album announcement was likely planned before the country singer’s passing.
“Dolly literally made Miley promise to not push back the release of new music if Dolly had passed. This is extremely weird for you to be making a post judging her, like you know anything about her grief or her relationship with Dolly,” one user wrote on X.
A second added, “It was literally finished before she passed and Dolly would’ve wanted her to release it anyway. What’s weird is you making false narratives.”
“Also for some you delusional people Dolly continued working after her husband Carl passed away. She did not go hide in a corner for weeks on end. She forged ahead,” a third added, while a fifth chipped in, “Dolly wouldn’t want her to put her career/life on hold.”
