Donald Trump’s threat about invading Greenland has taken another concerning turn. According to insiders, he has ordered top generals to draw up a plan for a Greenland invasion.
Donald Trump has pushed annexing Greenland for a long time. The last week, the president’s rhetoric has changed once again, as his comments has increassed tensions between Greenland, Denmark and the US.
On Friday, Donald Trump said the US would take action on Greenland “whether they like it or not”. The president added, “We’re going to be doing something with Greenland, either the nice way or the more difficult way.”
The foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland, Lars Løkke Rasmussen and Vivian Motzfeldt, are set to meet the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio to see what to do moving forward.

In recent days, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said that Denmark is at a “fateful moment.”
“We are at a crossroads, and this is a fateful moment,” she saide. “What is at stake is bigger than what the eye can see, because if what we experience from the Americans is that they are actually turning their backs on the western alliance, that they are turning their backs on our Nato cooperation by threatening an ally, which we have not experienced before, then everything will stop.”
Donald Trump on Greenland
On Sunday, onboard Air Force One, Donald Trump was once again asked about Greenland. He denied that the US had made an offer to aquire the territory in the arctic.
“I haven’t done that. Greenland should make the deal because Greenland does not want to see Russia or China take over,” he said. “Basically, their defense is two dog sleds. You know that? You know what their defense is? Two dog sleds.”
“In the meantime, you have Russian destroyers and submarines, and China destroyers and submarines all over the place. We’re not going to let that happen, and if it affects NATO, then it affects NATO. But, you know, they need us more than we need them, I will tell you that right now,” Trump continued, adding that the US aren’t thinking about leasing Grenland, but to aquire it.
“If we don’t do it, Russia or China will, and that’s not going to happen when I’m president,” Trump said.
Over the weekend, claims from the Daily Mail stated that some of his advisors has warned Donald Trump against military action. Still, according to the sources, the President has asked the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) to prepare the invasion plan.
Trump ‘orders top generals to draw up Greenland invasion plan’
However, joint chiefs of staff are qiuestioning whether it would be legal, and that Congress won’t support it.
“[Trump’s advisors] have tried to distract Trump by talking about less controversial measures, such as intercepting Russian ‘ghost’ ships – a clandestine network of hundreds of vessels operated by Moscow to evade Western sanctions – or launching a strike on Iran,” the source told the Daily Mail.
“Since Congress would not allow Trump to exit NATO, occupying Greenland could force the Europeans to abandon NATO. If Trump wants to end NATO, this might be the most convenient way to do it.”
A diplomatic source added: “The generals think Trump’s Greenland plan is crazy and illegal. So they are trying to deflect him with other major military operations. They say it’s like dealing with a five-year-old.”
