Vice President JD Vance may have a lot on his plate, but the internet seems fixated on one thing: his eyes. Specifically, the ongoing debate about whether or not he wears eyeliner.
Despite repeated denials โ including from his wife, Usha Vance โ rumors about Vanceโs allegedly enhanced lash line just wonโt go away. And with every new public appearance, social media erupts with fresh jokes and speculation.
The eyeliner conspiracy
JD Vanceโs striking blue eyes and appearance started gaining attention when rumors swirled that he might become vice president. Even Donald Trump couldnโt resist commenting on his running mateโs looks โ and he didnโt hold back.
โHe looks like a young Abraham Lincoln,โ Trump said in an interview onย Fox News.
But lately, itโs JD Vanceโs eyelashes โ and whether theyโve had a little enhancementโ that have been stealing the spotlight.
Usha Vance previously toldย Puck Newsย that her husbandโs dramatic lashes are โall natural,โ adding, โIโve always been jealous of those lashes.โ
Even former congressman George Santos chimed in last year, insisting Vance isnโt wearing makeup. โIโve met him in person before he was a senator, and I can confirm he has long eyelashes. They cast a shadow on his waterline when in studios full of lights,โ Santosย posted on Xย in October 2024.
But social media remains unconvinced. โYes, he does,โ one person responded to Santos. โIs it from Sephora or Ulta?โ
Emo vibes and Maybelline jokes
During a recent meeting with Presidentย Donald Trumpย and Irish leader Micheรกl Martin, Vanceโs eyeliner discourse flared up yet again. Journalist Aaron Rupar shared a clip of Vance speaking and joked, โJD Vance went heavy on the eyeliner this morning.โ

That comment sparked an avalanche of reactions. โHeโs in his emo phase,โ one user quipped. Another asked, โWhy does this dude look like heโs always about to break out into an emo song?โ
The beauty jokes kept rolling in. โMaybelline called and said theyโve had to ramp up eyeliner production to keep up with JD Vanceโs demand,โ one person tweeted.
Even after Vance was booed at the Kennedy Center on March 13, someone cracked, โPeople probably have the same reaction when Vance walks into movies, restaurants, and the eyeliner section at Sephora.โ
Critics or just jealous?
Of course, many of these jokes come from Vanceโs critics, but some have taken a different stance โ arguing that people are just envious. โTheyโre just jealous of his great eyes,โ one defender commented.
So, does JD Vance really wear eyeliner? Or is he just blessed with naturally bold lashes? Either way, the internet isnโt ready to drop this one anytime soon.
