Donald Trump hasn’t even been in office for two months and already it feels like we’ve heard more about him than we did about Joe Biden in the previous four years.
Before you celebrate that, it’s not necessarily a good thing. Headlines and controversy so often go hand in hand, and Trump’s boisterous tactics and rock-the-boat attitude could be interpreted as a threat not just the stability of the US, but indeed to the entire world.
So it was that people watched with keen interest when the POTUS delivered his speech to Congress last week. The event was a predictably entertaining affair, producing all manner of news stories relating to Trump and his supporting cast.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also found herself in the firing line, proving – if it at all still needed proving – that one really can never rest in the presence of cameras these days.
Pelosi and Trump have something of a fiery history, readers will surely remember, dating back to Trump’s first term as president. During that time (2019-2023) Pelosi was House Speaker, and she and Trump regularly clashed one with another. For her part, Pelosi regularly criticized Trump and his administration. Trump was all too happy to fight fire with fire.
Arguably their most explosive interaction saw Pelosi rip up a copy of Trump’s State of the Union address in 2020, an act that many deemed to be the first time the former-and-current POTUS had truly gotten under her skin.
Let’s just say there’s small love lost between the two.
And though Pelosi may no longer be House Speaker, her live reaction to Trump’s address to Congress earlier this month was enough to garner attention online.
Trump’s speech – predictably charged and broad in its scope – saw the president celebrate the vast amount of executive orders he’s signed since taking office in January.
“America is back,” Trump said. “For just this one night, why not join us in celebrating so many incredible wins for America?”
One of the aforementioned executive orders was titled: “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports”. As one can deduce, the bill promises to keep transgender athletes from competing against biological females.
While Trump was talking over the bill, the camera panned to Nancy Pelosi, who looked visibly perturbed by what she was hearing. Needless to say, her reaction served as a catalyst to comments online, with the former House Speaker shaking her head and apparently talking to herself.
On X, the 84-year-old was even branded “weird.”
In sharing the video, one X user wrote: “Just so we’re all aware, this was Nancy Pelosi’s reaction as Trump was discussing men not being allowed to play in women’s sports.”
She looks like a dang lizard 🦎 going through alcohol withdrawals.
“Nancy Pelosi, who once was so hysterical as Speaker of the House that she ripped up President Trump’s SOTU speech, is sitting with a cane talking to herself tonight,” wrote another.
A third wrote: “She lost mind over him.”
A fourtg penned: “President Trump asks for the Dems to work together to Make America GREAT Again and Nancy Pelosi’s face is PRICELESS! She looks like a dang lizard going through alcohol withdrawals.“
After the session, Pelosi herself took to X to share her thoughts.
“He promised to bring down inflation on day one,” she wrote. “He didn’t.
“He promised to bring down the cost of living on day one. He didn’t.
“Now his budget plan gives tax breaks to billionaires while ripping away health care from millions of Americans. Republicans voted for it with glee.”
