Melania Trump and her husband, Donald, appeared at an event celebrating 250 years of the Navy on Sunday. While many were annoyed that the president arrived an hour late, when the first lady began her speech, people had differing opinions. While many praised Melaniaโs speech, social media erupted with taunts towards her and her awkward greeting.
Donald and Melania Trump appeared at an event at the Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, Virginia, on Sunday, to celebrate 250 years of the Navy. The couple was late to the event as Donald Trumpโs speech began more than an hour later than planned.
Both Melania and her husband arrived wearing their what is now only called their trademark cap. Donald wore his usual red MAGA hat, while Melania, less frequently, wore a white cap with the same USA logo as Donaldโs.
Meanwhile, the First Lady of the United States rocked somehwat of a โTop Gunโ style with a brown bomber jacket, but as she began her speech, people had some opinions as to how she greeted the navy audience members.
โHooyah, Navy,โ Melania said, but the response was likely not what she had expected. While applause followed, an awkward pause soon appeared in the crowd.

While some praised Melania Trump for her greeting, others werenโt convinced. On social media, many users made their opinions clear on Melaniaโs โHooyah.โ
โPlease make it stop,โ one X user wrote.

โCringe,โ another added,โ while a third asked, โGood lord. Did her comms team tell her to say this to be relatable?โ
A fourth mocked the first lady by saying, โNow she speaks Navy. She can add it to her list of languages,โ referring to the claims that Melania can speak six languages, including French and Italian, but rarely or never has used them in public.
Another social media user stated, โWe are a goddamned sitcom.โ
โOur country is being invaded by foreigners! ICE, we got one, quick!โ one wrote.
After greeting sailors with a โhooyah,โ Melania continued her speech by saying it was an honor to be there.
โGenerations of sailors have kept America free because of your presence on the high seas,โ she said. โYour strength, bravery and sacrifice inspires us all.โ
