For supposedly โcheatingโ on the golf course, Donald Trump is being ridiculed online.
The president has owned over a dozen golf courses throughout the world before even dabbling in politics, so itโs no secret that golf is his favorite sport.
At least 45 of the 189 days since Trumpโs return to the White House in January of this year have been spent on extravagant golf vacations. In March, it was disclosed that he had visited his favorite Florida waterfront mansion, Mar-a-Lago, an astounding six times in three months.
However, a leaked video from the presidentโs recent experiment at his opulent Turnberry resort in Scotland seems to show himย โcheating,โ which has caused him to face harsh criticism.
In the Twitter video, Trumpโs caddy is seen driving his golf cart a little ahead of him and seems to drop the ball behind him as the president gets closer.
The term โcommander in cheatโ has since been a popular topic on social media, and dozens of people have flocked to share their thoughts on the video.
โTrumpโs golf game is as dishonorable as his political game,โย said one critic on Twitter, while another wrote on Reddit, โWell if that ainโt a perfect metaphor.โ
Numerous others, however, said that Trump is ignoring the domestic political turmoil, particularly the exorbitant prices of groceries, during his four-day visit, which has so far included two rounds of golf over the weekend with alleged trade negotiations in between.
Trump used the course to discuss tariffs before meeting with Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the EU Commission, where a trade agreement between the US and the EU was ultimately reached.
Along with his intentions to develop a second 18-hole golf course at his Menie estate in Aberdeenshire, he is also scheduled to meet with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and First Minister John Swinney today (Monday, July 28), literally on the golf course, to discuss further trade agreements.
Claims that the 79-year-old doesnโt play fairly have been made against him before. In Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump, novelist Rick Reilly explored Trumpโs purported dishonesty on the course.
In the book, Reilly states,ย โAt Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back onto the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: Pele.โ
The president has already been accused of cheating by well-known figures like Samuel L. Jackson and LPGA star Suzann Pettersen.
The White House has called Trumpโs trip to Scotland aย โworking trip,โย and Trump has disputed the accusations on numerous occasions.
